I meet a lot of people that use bad four letter words to describe certain employees. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are 3 main challenges when hiring a person, and the manager must be involved whether they inherited the employee, hired the employee or used a recruiting partner to assist in the process.
- Figure out who you really need in that role; see the target
- Don’t rush the hiring process; it takes time.
- Don’t abandon the new hire; Onboard.
Some managers like to cut corners on one or more of these steps and it leads to a misfit down the road. Down economy does not mean turnover costs are not just as high as an up economy.
