Why Clear Job Postings Matter: Attract the Right Talent

In the world of today I think it can safely be said that people suffer from information overload leading to a large amount of skimming. I mean, when was the last time you read the Apple Terms and Conditions or conversely saw a poorly written message for instructions something and followed it literally? Never? Figures.

So why would a candidate looking for work be any different? I have recently seen some terrible job posting ads on both ends of the spectrum.

This role is as sketchy as it comes, and if you apply on this position you likely aren’t being picky. (Sales of stuff to someone ~in a rough area of town, no less)

“We are looking for someone with a drive to succeed. if you are willing to learn and have a positive outlook on life, WE WANT YOU! hiring for 2 sales positons with the chance to advance very quickly within the company. please forward your resume with a quick message about why you want to be a part of our team. (think outside the box) and we will contact you for a interview. Better yet, show up at the door!. show me you want to work with us.”

Then the opposite end of the spectrum for an IT role:

I get that there’s a lot needed for the last role and just a pulse for the first role, but who is applying to these ads. There is a better way. Set the bar higher and you will get better people. There are other steps, but this is the place to start for sure. Need some help? Contact me…PLEASE…before you go to market with another poor representation of who you are and who you want. Pursue greatness for your company starts by pursuing great people for your company.
