Most people ‘work to live’; very few ‘live to work’. But why? Is it too hard to find a role you like? I’m sure there are limited roles for professional athletes, astronauts, and video game testers, to be sure. I think there’s probably quite a few good roles out there for people though, and many people that would switch roles with other people that would switch roles back.
Have you ever heard a person say, ‘I’d do that (insert crappy job) if they paid me what that guy is making.’? I’m sure we all have and very few of us realize at the time that we just put a price on our soul, our spirit, or zest for life when we say those words. There are lots of roles in this world and I’d bet there is a better one out there for many people, but their soul has been bought by a paycheck that satisfies in the moment. Eventually those soul-sucking jobs may even become comfortable.
Side step those soul-suckers, go find what you want to do, become great at it, and will likely find that the money follows. What’s more is that you will inadvertently have become super happy. Win-win.
